We asked our attendees, “What is one bad habit that you think Hiring Managers need to quit?”

Here are their answers:

  • arriving late or last min rescheduling of interviews
  • Being indecisive
  • being indecisive on candidates
  • bringing too many people into the interview process
  • CAncelling their interviews 10 minutes before the actual interview to reschedule
  • comparison shopping ad naseum
  • Continuing to interviewing candidates after finding ideal candidate.
  • Delayed feedback, needs to be timely after the interview.
  • dont forget to ask current employees for referrals. I've often found great, passive candidates this method
  • dragging their feet on interviewing AND on making a hiring decision
  • Expecting candidates to be able to do 100% of the job right from the start.
  • Finding the cookie cutter candidate
  • HM's need to stop asking for more resumes after identifying a top candidate.
  • Ignoring emails!
  • It depends on the hiring manager.
  • Kicking the can down the road. In other words, saying a candidate was fine, but let's keep interviewing other candidates.
  • Need to stay connected to the candidate from the time the offer is made/accepted through day-one.
  • Not allowing recruiters to sit in on interviews.
  • Not hiring based on someones potential- only looking for experience.
  • Not making a decision
  • Not responding back timely when candidates have been submitted.
  • Not taking an active role in the process.

  • Slow feedback on candidate interviews
  • slow to respond to emails and not selling the candidate
  • Stop asking for more resumes to compare to leading canddiate.
  • taking too long to review candidates on hot jobs
  • taking too much time between recruiting steps
  • They forget that the candidate is also interviewing them, not just them interviewing the candidates.
  • Thinking there is a quantity of candidates that will produce the hire
  • Unconscious bias
  • Unintentional Bias
  • Unsolicited referrals derailing top candidate with out proper discussion.
  • Wanting to see so many candidates
